"Product discontinued"
Bought large quantity of a popular product for downstairs floors. Went to order upstairs shortly thereafter. Learned product discontinued and unable to obtain. No similar color either. Unable to complete my upstairs to match. I contacted Johnson. Company representative unsympathetic and incompetent. Local supplier equally as unhelpful. Also one shipment of obtained product was in poor shape, large variation of color and had to return. Overall, Would not recommend this brand of flooring. Please do not use and seek to purchase from a different manufacturer.

"Tearing it out after three years"
We installed Johnson Evertough walnut floors (4,000 sq. ft ) in our new home three years ago. We have not animals or children and seldom have guests. It is a great floor if you never walk on it and keep it in the dark. This floor dents easily (all you need to do is put furniture on it). It scratches easily (we can't wear shoes) and fades (some parts are almost blond in three years even with sunblocking windows and shades). We are ripping the first 850 sq ft. out this week and hope to rip another 1,500 sq ft out in a few months.

"Johnson Wood Floor Performance"
I purchased Johnson hand-scraped walnut flooring four years ago from a local dealer. They installed it through the entire first floor living and kitchen area of my home and did a great job. The total cost was ~$28,000. The floors were just as beautiful in our home as they were in the store. Our selection of this product was based on a lot of research on websites like this one. Our final decision was based on reviews, perceived quality, and warranty. Price was a factor, but not as critical as the other factors mentioned since we planned to enjoy these floors for as long as we were around. Only my wife and I live in the home and I always remove my shoes when coming into the house and we keep the floors like furniture. About a year ago. I started noticing that the urethane finish on the ridges of the hand scraped finish were starting to dull. Since then, it has become very noticeable. I called the supplier and was glad to know I had a 35 year warranty and the issue with my floor would be backed by Johnson. A representative from Johnson visited my home and two months later I received a response from them stating that my problem was normal wear and tear and not covered under warranty. I thought I did my due diligence on the front end by selecting what I thought was a reputable manufacturer with a solid customer support network. After all, choosing the right floor was an important and costly decision. Knowing what I know today, I would not recommend Johnson floors if you need more than 4 years of service. The minimal information available to prospective buyers on real world performance and support makes it difficult to verify whether manufacturer sales tools of long term warranties and excellent customer service are real. Based on my experience, Johnson did not stand behind their product and they appeared to have zero interest in keeping existing customers happy and instead focused on blaming the customer for product performance issues.

"Wear finish Problems"
We have had Johnson Brazilian Walnut ForeverTuff through out our entire home for three years now. Looks beautiful and resists scratches from our two Sheltie dogs. However, is anything drops on the flooring it pops the surface wear finish and leaves a gray hazy mark with flanking surface wear finish. Terry Miller Baton Rouge, LA 70809

"Johnson Kempas Flooring"
We bought and these floors 3 years ago and installed them in a bedroom suite and landing area. We purchased these pre-finished with a 5 layer polyurethane sealer and a red tone stain. Kempas is normally brown in tone with a walnut type coloring, is extremely hard being harder than oak but not as hard as maple, it is an exotic hardwood with a unique shimmer in the grain unlike the flat grain of other woods, it can go by other names but you can easily Google Kempas and learn more. This red finish makes the floors look like traditional cherry and we used a few cherry pieces for threshholds,etc... and they look very compatible. We did that because our supplier didn't carry trim pieces but it was not an issue. The Kempas has the advantage of lower price and the beautiful shimmer. The wood was so hard that we had to drill the starter holes and use the rented nail gun at a higher setting to get proper penetration but we very quickly discovered what worked. We are very satisfied with this product and installed it on a 3rd floor over plywood subflooring that we took the time to screw (not nail) down every 6-8 inches to prevent squeaks in the future. We removed the loose floor nails from the house's original construction, also. We laid down 30# tar paper as underlayment instead of the 15# and nailed right over that. The floors have not been repaired and we have experienced only 1 hairline crack that we determined was stable. We did discover that this wood can be brittle when following the grain and can create extremely sharp and hard splinters that would and do feel like getting metal in your fingers. We have also determined that it wears very well on the surface so the splintering was only an issue at installation if you weren't being careful. The quality of the pieces was excellent, no rejects for finish or inconsistency. The fit was extremely good though a few pieces were not the exact width. Our boards were all tongue and groove on sides and ends and 3" wide. We purchased approximately 550 sq feet for $3.25 per square foot through a local discount supplier. Prices for Kempas at Lowe's and Home Depot were slightly higher and no red finish at the time. They now sell another related wood product. This wood is 3/4" thick, solid Kempas. We would buy more of this flooring and actually intend to do so and would highly recommend it to friends or family. It gives a luxury appearance and at a reasonable price. Being solid and not a veneer this wood can be refinished as needed over the years. I would consider this as durable as any old fashioned hardwood floor but with the advantage of modern finishes which allow for damp mopping and clean installation without nasty chemical outgassing in the home. You can walk on it immediately, too. This flooring was cheaper than laminate and increased the value of our home unlike laminate (which is literally a photo on thin paper laminated to a backer and coated with plastic- cheap junk). The comparable laminates were 2 times the price per square foot. The nail gun rental and nails cost $50 and we did the floor in one day- hubby and I with no prior experience though we did research a lot prior to rental and installation.
