Mohawk carpeting, wood and tile floor coverings offer homeowners a broad range of materials for every room in the house. The Calhoun, Georgia company manufactures floor coverings and textiles for homes and commercial applications and sells its products through a number of well-known retailers such as Bloomingdale's, Target, and Lowe's.

Flooring Lines

Mohawk, a company known for using a rhinoceros to test its carpets, markets practically all types of floor coverings from carpets to rugs, laminates to hardwoods, and ceramic to stone tiles. Its lines of carpets include Greenworks (eco-friendly), SmartStrand (renewably sourced), and EverStrand (recycled from plastic bottles).

Four lines of hardwood floors are marketed under the names Traditional Expressions, Nature's Eloquence, Antique Artisans, and Exotic Treasures. Mohawk has five collections of laminate floor coverings: Elements, Traditions, Handiworks, Earthworks, and Hemisphere. Indoor and outdoor ceramic and stone tiles are also marketed by Mohawk.

Company History

Mohawk Industries was founded in 1878, as Mohawk Carpet Mills, by four brothers who imported 14 secondhand looms from England to produce what would become instantly popular carpets for American homes. The company grew internally as well as through a series of acquisitions -- particularly in the 1990s -- of other carpet mills and flooring producers to become the world's largest floor covering supplier. It has now been in business for over 125 years and has expanded its offerings beyond floor coverings to include textiles for the home as well as bed linens, tapestries, pillows, throws, and window blinds.

Environmental Considerations

Mohawk claims that it diverts 3 billion pounds of pre- and post-consumer waste and one billion pounds of foam trim from landfills each year. It also reuses 100% of the water from manufacturing processes at its ceramic tile facilities and never discharges it as waste. It also produces carpeting from recycled plastic bottles.

Mohawk offers a number of warranties to consumers of its products with the terms varying depending on various factors. In general, its carpet warranties cover stains, fading, soil, wear, anti-static, and manufacturers' defects. Hardwood warranties cover the finish from visible defects as well as against from moisture damage, indentations, and excessive sunlight. Mohawk warrants that its laminate flooring will be free of manufacturing defects and assures consumers against moisture damage.
