"Poor quality"
The quality is not there. In the condo that I sold the Shaw carpet was
25 years old and it looked brand new. The new one I have in a new condo
is disgusting. It leaves foot prints and leaves a path where you walk.
Even after someone looked at it nothing was done. After all there
inspectors are on their side. I will never buy one again. This company
is extremely unfaithful. The path started right after it was installed.

"Wish I'd Seen This Sooner!"
I have just gotten off the phone with the store where I'd bought this
poorly made carpet because I hadn't heard the results of the inspection
ordered by Shaw in November. My complaint is this: after installation of
about 1100 square feet of carpet covering three bedrooms and a living
room/dining room in June of 2012, I am thoroughly disappointed with the
lack of quality and the wear it is showing. I could be reading my own
complaint when I saw on this site that it is worn, matted, flattened,
dirty looking after this length of time! I had it professionally steam
cleaned in October of 2012 after only four months of use, and again in
early November of this year, thinking we must be awfully hard on it.
There are only two people in this house, and two small dogs. To help
keep dirt to a minimum, there are mats outside the front door, inside
the front door, at every area where the carpet meets the tile at the
entry to the kitchen and the exit to the screen porch. There are mats in
front of the couch where we sit. There are mats at the back door
entrance from the yard to the porch and from the porch to the house.
There is an area rug beneath the dining table. If I had any more mats,
there'd be no need for carpet at all--the whole place seems to be
covered in them! I bought a new vacuum cleaner --Shark Rotator-- shortly
after buying the carpet and it seemed to be picking up tons of what I
thought was dirt. It wasn't just dirt...it was pieces of carpet
fiber...I Wasn't just vacuuming the carpet, I was vacuuming up the
actual carpet! Still after twice weekly vacuuming (more carpet)and two
professional cleanings, it still looked bad. The second cleaner asked
how old the carpet was and I said less than two years and he was
astonished. He said it looked six or seven years old. He suggested that
if it had a warranty, it is usually five or ten years and that I should
think about checking that out because it looked pretty bad. So I started
by calling the retailer and he came out to look at it. I had to laugh
(or I'd cry) when he told me several things: it was a closeout (so?), it
was not expensive (so?) and it just looked like it needed cleaning (it
was) and raking (really?). I told him that the very things he used to
sell me the carpet...closeout, great deal, great price...are the things
he was now saying were wrong with it, and implying that it was my
stupidity in buying it in the first place. So I asked him to get in
touch with Shaw to have them come and inspect it. So they sent The Floor
Detective out a week or so later, and he spent quite a bit of time
looking, testing, taking pictures, etc. and listening to my complaints.
I wanted to say, "you have eyes...you can see what's wrong" but I just
explained that the only places where the carpet is not worn down flat is
where it is not walked on at all--under the coffee table, under the
buffet, around the edges. I explained that it still appears just filthy
after cleaning. I told him that the carpet is so flat at the entrances
to the rooms that the nails from the edges are sticking through it.
(Even with my mats over them!) I told him pieces of the carpet are
getting stuck in the vacuum. (Also, which has more to do with the
installation, the carpet underlay is coming apart in one bedroom where
we hardly ever go. It started as just one small area and has spread out
so that many feet of it is resting right on the concrete floor.) He
nodded quite a bit, and I'd hoped I was making my case for replacement
under the ten year warranty. I even asked him if he minded my watching
him work and he said no, he was pretty used to it as he'd testified
quite a bit in court cases. So, it came as no surprise that when the
results of his tests were in, he sided with the folks who'd sent him. He
said, as I've read here, that it was improperly cleaned, that the wear
and tear was normal for its age, and that when he used distilled water
to extract dirt he got a lot of dirt out. So it's everyone else's fault
that the carpet is disgusting junk; not Shaw's. I sent a complaint to
the BBB in the area where Shaw is manufactured and I see that there were
over 75 complaints lodged against them this year regarding their
products or warranties. I will not be able to replace this garbage
carpet for a long while and it is really an embarrassment to have people
come in...it looks dirty and discolored and looks like a herd of
elephants have been traipsing through. So, unless they decide to do the
right thing, I will be shouting it from the housetop and calling and
writing every consumer agency I can to keep this from happening to
others. I just wish I'd read this sooner myself and I never would have
spent my hard earned money on such shoddy merchandise. Caveat emptor is
great advice in this case.

"Awful Carpeting, NO satisfaction"
Should have read reviews before buying carpet. Like many of the other
reviewers we are two old people with a middle-aged cat as only pet. I
feel less foolish about not complaining earlier about our now three year
old carpet, as there seem to be many who complained within months (as we
should have). It was not cheap carpeting and has been cleaned by a very
reputable (translate not bargain) cleaning company as recommended.
Company says must not have gotten soap out, no manufacturing defect. It
seems to seek stains and the traffic patterns are totally squashed down.
Can only imagine what a family with kids and dogs could have done to it.
Carpet and guarantee is a piece of...

"Horrible. Carpet"
We bought Shaw carpet 2 years ago and I am so terribly disappointed. It
looks like it's over 15 yrs old. I am so upset as we waited a long time
for our new carpet. We have contacted Shaw and spoke to a rude customer
service rep that told me I had to get it cleaned before filing a claim.
I informed her that I am scared to have it cleaned that it will fall
apart even more. It has frayed so bad and there's only 2 people
living in our house, not a herd of cows. This carpet is terrible, poor
poor quality. Do not buy!

"Worst Carpet Ever!"
This is the 3rd time I've tried to post a review on Shaw carpet.
Specifically, I bought a Martha Stewart Lindenwald manufactured by Shaw
in July 2011 and less than 2 years later it looks worse than the 15 year
old carpet I replaced. I used the recommended pad (which of course was
extra) so as to get the warranty and I had no problem with the
installation which was done by a Home Depot contractor. However, the
quality of carpet is simply awful. Don't even bother trying to get
satisfaction from a warranty because they will not honor anything. They
have flat out denied any kind of proration or money back without even
sending out someone to inspect the carpet or even seeing it. I have
never bought carpet that wore this badly or looked so crappy. Do not
waste your hard earned money.
The carpet is garbage and, as a company, Shaw Carpet is not honorable.
I will never recommend nor ever again buy a Shaw carpet product.

"Very unsatisfied"
We bought our Shaw carpet 3 years ago. It was very expensive and was
suppose to have a lifetime guarantee. It looks 30 years old, very
compacted with rows running through it. We called the company and were
told to contact the dealer we purchased from. We contacted the carpet
store and were talked down to and were told since we did not have it
cleaned in the two year period the warranty was not valid. We did have
it cleaned just shy of 3 years. The salesmen at our store said the
reason the carpet looked so bad was because it was probably very dirty.
It is just my husband and I, we are retired so we don't have a lot of
traffic. Also, after having the carpet cleaned it looked just as bad. I
hope no one out there buys Shaw carpet. It is so expensive and is worse
than the cheapest carpet on the market.

"So disappointed!"
Within six months of buying this carpet I noticed the crushing/matting
and after a year it was so bad I contacted company who I purchased from
and Shaw sent someone out and they said this was normal. Less than one
year, yeah right. Second inspector said the carpet 'lost its memory and
should be replaced.' Shaw cleaned the carpet and it was back to the same
condition the following week. One year later and like other poster I am
embarrassed to have any one come to my home and there is only two of us
with no pets and this carpet is making my home look bad and I've always
taken pride in how my house look. We paid $5,000 for carpet and it needs
to be replaced 2.5 yrs later. Sent letter to CEO and no response! If
anybody has any suggestions of getting someone to take care of this
matter please let me know. I did have Dyson and ended up buying a Kirby
but no change in raising the pile. I feel I've been swindled!

"Defective carpet"
I purchased an upgraded carpet for my townhouse during construction.
Within months I knew there was a seam problem as the carpet was shedding
at the seams. I called the carpet supplier and after two separate
attempts the carpet seam appeared to be tight again. Fast forward a
couple of years and the carpet is separating and it appears to be
ripping along the backing thread at three different locations. When the
installer came out he said in thirty years he had never seen the backing
of a carpet fail like this. I would like to let you know this is
upstairs bedroom carpeting. The installer suggested at this point we
submit for a warranty claim with Shaw. At this point a third party
Inspector was called in. He was very thorough with the investigation and
submission to Shaw but I was denied any warranty. The supplier is still
very upset about my predicament and may cut me a special replacement
deal. We will see. Shaw's product is definitely defective and my advice
to anyone with a seam problem is to put on a defective claim
immediately. Too much time went by for me. I still will never buy
another Shaw product. They do not back it up. This product was obviously
defective as indicated to me by the repair tech and the third party
surveyor. There simply was not enough glue applied to the backing during
manufacturing.

"Shaw Tuftex Carpet Horrible"
We purchased our carpet through our builder Darling Homes. We purchased
a home in excess of $500,000 and Shaw carpets were what they had us
choose from. First of all I am terribly disappointed that Darling Homes
would use such poor carpet in their luxury homes. Anyone need read the
reviews and should not want to use this company.
We put the Tuftex sculptured carpet in our bedroom for an elegant, romantic feel. All I can say is that in under a year , the looped areas of the carpet are coming undone and we now have big strings of carpet hanging loose where the loops are all coming undone. Needless to say, the romantic, elegant feel has turned into a cheap mess.
I would not recommend anyone buy Shaw carpets and I feel my builder should be ashamed that they use such cheap carpet. We are currently trying to work with the warranty but I hold no hope after reading the other reviews and with what we are currently experiencing.
Very, very, disappointed. I am going to refer to better business bureau for sure.

"Beware - sheds horribly! Warranty no good"
Carpet sheds so badly, it clogs the vacuum hose. From when new to a year
later. Then found out warranty did not apply because it was put in a
rental house. Would not have helped anyway since Shaw said shedding was
normal. I guess in the next year every fiber of the carpet will be
sucked up in the vacuum cleaner. You just get the run around between
Shaw and Lowes. Do not buy Shaw products!
